We’re just a couple that were blessed with a wonderful son. Alex is the joy of our lives, and we prioritize all of our activities around him. We don’t really have any other choice.
Everyone in this family agrees that Olma is the brains behind this outfit. We were super-lucky when Alex was born, because Olma is a special education teacher! Olma mainly works with children on the autism spectrum, but she has access to current ideas on all special education. She knows the terminology and techniques and instructional methods and everything else. Any progress that Alex makes is directly related to the ideas that Olma has. Olma handles all of the difficult work – cooking special meals for Alex, brushing teeth, setting up work and play activities, planning his at-home learning programs, and much more. Alex is incredibly blessed to have Olma as a mother.
Bob just sort of hangs in there and is present. He gets the non-complicated routine things done. He gets Alex dressed and braces put on his ankles. He gets Alex to therapy and takes notes. He feeds Alex the food that Olma has prepared. He takes Alex to the playground. He gives Alex his shower. He plays cars. He puts on a Sesame Street video. Hey, that stuff is important and needs to get done too. When Olma comes home in the evening and spends time with Alex, Bob does a bit of computer work.
It’s not easy raising any child. Together we try to make this thing work.
