Who We Are
Just an Ordinary Family
Yes, we’re just parents that were suddenly dropped into the world of Down Syndrome.
We didn’t know anything about Down Syndrome. We didn’t know anyone with Down Syndrome.
Fortunately we had a network of friends who knew friends who could connect us to other families with children with Down Syndrome. And having that connection made all the difference.
We Want To
01.
— Educate
It’s scary to find that your child has Down Syndrome. What does that mean for your and your child’s future? Fortunately there are a lot of resources and people to help you navigate this new world.
02.
— Encourage
One of the most helpful things for us was just knowing we were not alone. There is a wonderful community of families with Down Syndrome who are willing to share and encourage.
03.
— Build Networks
Anything that you encounter in your world has probably been successfully overcome by many other people. We can point you in the direction toward finding these people. And the people make all the difference.
Our Stories
There were tears in the doctor's office the day we found out that our son likely had a genetic defect
That moment is as clear in my mind as any day in my life. The obstetrician led us into a special room and the geneticist gave us the abrupt news that there was about a 75% chance that our child would have a genetic abnormality.
This wasn't in our plans. Now what do we do? We didn't have a clear idea of what to do or where to go.
We felt a bit like we were dropped off on a deserted island. Here you go – here’s a book – good luck – have a good life – see you later.
